Top Ten Ways To Increase Traffic On Your Hubs
Although ultimately I want to maximize my HubPages earnings, as a member for less than three months, I am currently interested in increasing traffic on my hubs.
To date, I am averaging about 33 hits per day on about 60 Hubs, and I know that I must do a lot better than that to make significant earnings. Therefore, I reviewed the HubPages tutorials and any articles on the subject and the following are the top 10 recommendations that I discovered. Please note that there is no significance to the order in which they are listed since I do not have enough data to rate them in order.
1. Write good Hubs with quality content.
Every source that I read listed well written, high quality Hubs, usually at the top of the list, but no one gave any supporting evidence. Still, it makes sense that there would be little or no return traffic for poorly written Hubs.
2. Select subjects that are likely to get listed early by the major search engines.
Certain topics are the subject of Internet searches far more often than others are. However, if there are 10,000 hits and your Hub is on page 158, no one will ever get to your listing. It is better to be a big fish in a little pond than a small fish in the ocean. Whenever possible, select narrow subjects that you know a lot more about than almost anyone else so that you will end up near the top of the search.
3- Write great titles that catch your readers eye and make them want to read your Hub.
You may only get one chance to attract a visitor to your Hub and that is usually the title. Your title should be concise but with enough information so that the visitor knows immediately what to expect if he reads the rest of your Hub.
4. Write good Key Words that accurately reflect the content of your Hub.
Certain key words are more often the subject of searches than others are. Be sure to include them if they pertain to your Hub, but be warned that if they don’t deliver, visitors will not return and search engines will downgrade your site and drop you to the bottom of their searches.
5. Try to write Evergreen content, that is content that will still be relevant a year from now.
You may get a lot of traffic if you write about how the world will end next Wednesday, but it will drop of rapidly next Thursday whether or not the world actually ends then
6. Learn how to use backlinking and link your Hub to relevant other sources including your own Hubs.
Backlinking makes your Hub more useful to your readers. They can simply hit a link and go directly to another site that interests them without a new search. It is even better if you can link them to one of your own relevant Hubs.
7. Use photos and videos to make your Hubs more attractive.
Whenever I hop Hubs, one of the first things I notice are the photos and videos. If nothing else, they will encourage you to spend more time viewing the site, but I also believe that they will increase the likelihood that a visitor will return. I have also read that photos and videos will get your Hubs rated higher by the search engines.
8. Follow other Hubbers that interest you and comment on their Hubs.
I found that if I did that and made relevant, constructive comments, they would almost always follow me in return, generating additional Hub traffic.
9. Post your Hubs on Twitter or Facebook or any of the other social networking sites that you might be a member of.
I have not tried this yet, but I have no doubt that it is true. I have read stories by other Hubbers claiming anything from little or no impact to dramatic increases in Hub traffic. I recommend that you give it a try and judge for yourselves.
10. Last but not least, I recommend that you review your Hub metrics often and see what is and what is not working for you.
It is easy enough to see which of your Hubs have higher scores and more traffic. For the poorest performers, I check their titles, keywords, appearance (photos etc.) and determine how I can improve them. I also make a note of what subject matter attracts the most traffic to help me choose future subjects. I try to do this at least once a week so that my Hubs continue to improve over time.
In a few months, when I have had time to review similar information and feedback on earnings, I intend to write a similar article on "How to Increase Earnings From Your Hubs". I am sure that you realize that Hub traffic is only one of the factors that effect Hub earnings.

Hello, thank you for the interesting hubs especially about how to increase traffic. I will certainly be following your hubs. I am very sorry to hear about your brother's suicide.
These are excellent tips that I should try. I never bothered with social networking, because I would rather be writing than on Facebook or Twitter, but maybe I should open accounts with them. I have very little traffic to my hubs.
Good information. Thanks for sharing it.
Very good article, I learned alot as a newbie and hope to follow your advice!

Short, concise and relevant. Great tips. Thanks!
This is a great list of practical advice - writing quality hubs is #1 for a good reason. Why would anyone want to read your hubs if there is nothing worth reading? I had a chuckle out of the end of the world scenario in your evergreen content discussion.
Boy oh Boy! you've got a whole country of fans out here! which i could say same for myself! i've tried uploading new hubs every day, my articles are usually great, my linking is awesome, but somehow, they usually find their way to the bottom of the web. As a matter of fact, to find my hub, one would have to put my name, put the exact title of the hub, and then find some other detail to aid the search engines. in fact, i'm raising the white flag! i need help!!!
Good advice!
Great advice, well worth the read. Vote up.
